“Our national negotiators, elected by their local unions, have unanimously decided to recommend to the UAW-Ford National Council the proposed interim agreement,” UAW Vice President Rory Gamble said in a statement Wednesday. “During the General Motors strike, our negotiating team worked hard to maintain productive negotiations with Ford… Out of respect for our members, we will refrain from commenting or publishing full details of the agreement until UAW Ford Council leaders meet to verify the details. The preliminary agreement adopted by UAW leaders on November 1 provides for $6 billion in investments and promises to create or maintain 8,500 jobs. While GM employees received a $11,000 signing bonus, Ford will offer $9,000 to full-time workers at ratification. Ford-UAW presidents from across the country are expected in Dearborn on Friday to clean up the preliminary ratification agreement. The votes would probably be due the following Friday, November 8. Experts had expected a preliminary contract with Ford to be concluded fairly quickly. GM and UAW had to start from scratch to sign a new four-year contract. Negotiations with Ford – and at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, the last Detroit automaker to negotiate a contract with the union in 2019 – have the advantage of following GM`s model. Negotiating teams around Rory Gamble, vice president of ford`s UAW department, and Bill Dirksen, Ford`s vice president of labor affairs, quickly reached an agreement after “seriously” starting the discussion on economic issues on Monday. Contract negotiations with the Detroit Three moved to Ford after GM workers, who were on strike for six weeks, ratified their contracts friday.
“Our national negotiators, elected by their local unions, voted unanimously to recommend the proposed interim agreement to the UAW-Ford National Council,” Gamble said in a prepared statement issued shortly before 9 p.m. .m. “During the General Motors strike, our negotiating team worked hard to maintain productive negotiations with Ford. The typical bargaining strategy has been a very effective approach for the UAW and its members to ensure economic profits in terms of salary, benefits and to secure more than $6 billion in significant product investments in U.S. facilities, creating and maintaining more than 8,500 jobs for our communities. The preliminary agreement follows GM`s contract to include annual increases and lump sum payments. Fords Dirksen said in a prepared statement: “Ford can confirm the UAW announcement that the UAW and Ford have reached an interim agreement on a four-year contract. More details will be released at a later date. Ford Motor Co. and the United Auto Workers reached an interim agreement less than a week after the ratification of an agreement with General Motors Co.
